FEATURETTE is a late night snack of gritty earporn with hooks you can sink your teeth into. Think Flume meets NIN with a little Billie sprinkled in there.

Female fronted by Lexie Jay (Vox) and backed by bandmates Marc Koecher (Keys/Synth/Guitar) and Jon Fedorsen (Drums/Synths), the Toronto-based project are genre-bending and ready to carve out their own niche in the market with their dark, bouncy, and addictive sounds. The band is currently teasing singles from their upcoming EP, “Unluckiest”, anticipated for release this fall.

guess we should tell you What unluckiest is all about

FEATURETTE’S ‘Unluckiest’ EP is an un-cut, visceral dissection of lead singer Lexie Jay’s post-covid mental state. The quick-and-dirty 5 song EP explores themes of violence, sex and obsession, on her journey for physic emancipation from her live-in demons. Having so much down time as an artist allowed newfound space for Lex’s darker thoughts to seep into her reality, and writing them into existence seemed like the next logical step in a unique healing journey of very public shadow work. Ironically (given the actual sound of the tracks) many of the songs boil down to different perspectives on love: love obsession, betrayal, lust and self-love to name a few. It’s only fitting, then, that the title track of the work Unluckiest, set for release Friday, October 13th, should be the 360 god’s-eye view of Lex’s attempt at resolve in such a vulnerable time:

“… Think we’re lucky enough, unluckiest ones, it hurt us enough, to know we’re worthy of love. But I’m lucky enough, lucky enough, to be a victim of love. Think I’m lucky enough.”

Because at the end of the day, even the actual unluckiest person alive would still have to be pretty lucky to be that rare. Perhaps even the luckiest …
